PALMOILMAGAZINE, JAKARTA – Through its bio compressed natural gas (CNG) program, PT Dharma Satya Nusantara Tbk. (DSNG) has made significant contributions to both environmental sustainability and company profitability by reducing operational costs associated with fossil fuel use.
From 2021 to 2023, the installation of bio CNG systems with a capacity of 60 tons of fresh fruit bunches (FFB) per hour saved approximately 5.2 million liters of fossil fuel and reduced carbon emissions by about 7,908 tCO2e.
The bio CNG program, which began development in 2020, has already saved over 3.7 million liters of fossil fuel and cut carbon emissions by around 10,003 tCO2e. In light of these achievements, DSNG plans to double its methane capture and bio CNG production capacity, demonstrating its strong commitment to a circular and sustainable economy within its supply chain.
Looking ahead, DSNG’s 2028 vision includes achieving energy independence through the production of in-situ renewable resources. The company aims to start with its palm oil operations and eventually sell the surplus energy generated. “By leveraging renewable energy, we hope to achieve energy independence, advance a circular economy, and minimize energy-related operational costs,” said Albertus Hendrawan, Director of PT Dharma Satya Nusantara Tbk.
For information, after realizing such things, the company was one that got Excellence Award – the appreciation event for the members of Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) that are committed to implement sustainable palm oil practices.
In 2023 there were five nominees of the award, such as, the first, innovation; the second, leadership for conservation; the third, the impacts for smallholders; the fourth, communication for the goodness; and the fifth, award for the same responsibility.
CEO of RSPO, Joseph D’Cruz said that the organization surveyed its members in the world to deliver extraordinary contribution for the members that implement sustainable palm oil practices. (P2)
