“In the five past years, Malaysia and Indonesia successfully minimized deforestation. Many learning articles published revealed the facts and showed that we successfully minimize deforestation and environmental damages while escalating social economic advantages for the local community,” Mr. Chandran said, as Palmoilmagazine.com quoted from the official page of RSPO, Saturday (25/5/2024).

Though there have been progresses, he acknowledged, the absorption still reached about 19 – 20% of sustainable palm oil produced by RSPO members.

“Hundreds of companies do not take action to be (our) members. How would we get them? How would we involve them?” he asked.

RSPO found that it would be difficult because the argument was why should be the members when (the companies) become another membership. But it is time for every party to cooperate in harmony.

“We need to start communicating with the government about the national – scale standards in their jurisdiction. By this dialogue, we would cooperate to get the same approach because the core is sustainability,” he said.

Mr. Chandran continued sustainability is what can be proved to the world that palm oil industry can produce and consume sustainably. “This is our role to be bigger in getting communication to the world. Education and communication should start from the children namely in educational environment. The children are the future and decision makers and we have to start delivering educational and communication program better,” he said.

Eventually, the end goal is to produce, trade sustainable palm oil to develop the customers’ trusts. “This is the most important thing for us to do,” Chandran said. (T2)
