365 Palm Oil Plantation Companies Seek Clearance under Chapters 110A and 110B

PALMOILMAGAZINE, JAKARTA – Minister of Environment and Forestry, Siti Nurbaya Bakar, has issued 21 decisions legalizing or clearing palm oil plantations in forested areas. This action is carried out through the mechanisms outlined in Chapters 110A and 110B of the Omnibus Law on Job Creation.

Bambang Hendroyono, General Secretary of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (MEF) and Chairman of the Monitoring and Control Task Force Team in the Omnibus Law on Job Creation, stated that thus far, 365 companies have applied for clearance under Chapter 110A, while 49 have utilized Chapter 110B. The government aims to release palm oil plantations from forested areas for a total of 2,130 companies, covering an estimated area of approximately 3.37 million hectares.

Bambang also told some of the plantations are developing in the legal areas but categorized in forest regions in the Laws Number 26 / 2007 about Spatial Plans. “Some palm oil plantations do not havel legality, do not have forest release docuemnts where they operate,” he said, as Palmoilmagazine.com quoted from Tempo, Saturday (30/3/2024).

Prior, palm oil plantation owners that operated in forest regions would get crime sanction. But through UUCK, the government adopted administration fine approach as the remedium ultimatum. This enables them to propose forest release permit and access plantation legal.

The bleaching process involved taskforce team, such as, Palm Oil Industrial Governance and Optimizing Revenue Taskforce. The government also planned to accelerate the process by targeting, as least, until September 2024 the last.

Coordinator Minister in Economy, Airlangga Hartarto told that by handing over the legal for palm oil plantation companies in forest region, it would be the strategy in Indonesia to face European Union Deforestation Regulation. This would be very important to renew palm oil images of Indonesia about deforestation issues.

The cooperation between Ministry of Agriculture and Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency should also accelerate palm oil plantation bleacing as integral part of what Indonesia is doing to get better palm ol images in the globe. (T2)
