Palmoilmagazine.com.JAWA, CENTRAL JAVA – Kampung Batik Laweyan in Solo City, Central Java Province, would use sustainable palm oil within Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) certificate to produce their batiks. Malam batik in RSPO certificate is the people’s awareness of Laweyan who mostly do batik industries.
Chairman of Forum Pengembangan Kampoeng Batik (FPKB), Alfa Febila Priatmono said, Kampoeng Laweyan has been batik center ever since pre – independence – day of Indonesia.
He thought, many evidences of Laweyan people’ economic independency have become parts of history of Kampoeng Laweyan that can be found until now. It is normal if based on the history of Kampoeng Laweyan, it now becomes the oldest batik village in Indonesia.
“The up and down of economy in Indonesia are the pictures of Laweyan people,” Alfa said to Palmoilmagazine.com, Sunday (16/4/2023).

Alfa also mentioned, the Laweyan people are always independent in the economy. Most of them independently do batik at their homes. This is reinforced that many batik businessmen around the society.
“The birth of Mase culture was the starting point of batik business in Laweyan,” Alfa mentioned. Mase culture puts a dignity of a mother in a house as the successful business woman.
The capability of a female to run batik business would need detail and persistency to process. It is normal if ‘handmade batik is the icon of Laweyan batik which is now sold in many regions. Besides, printed batik is the next success of the Laweyan.
The process in batik business in Laweyan which is popular, makes it as batik village tourism goal in Solo City. As tourism village, Kampoeng Laweyan plans to encourage sustainable village tourism.
The concept of sustainable village tourism would focus to manage the village based on sustainable principles and criteria. Since 2004 Kampoeng Laweyan has become tourism reference in Solo City.
