PALMOILMAGAZINE, JAKARTA – Council of Palm Oil Producing Countries (CPOPC) continues to strengthen its strategic partnership with Papua New Guinea to support the development of a more sustainable palm oil industry in producing nations.
The commitment was reaffirmed during a courtesy meeting between CPOPC and Papua New Guinea’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Simon Namis, held on Monday (4/5/2026).
According to information obtained by Palmoilmagazine.com from CPOPC on Thursday (7/5/2026), the meeting served as an important platform to deepen bilateral cooperation while reaffirming CPOPC’s role as a collaborative forum for palm oil-producing countries to exchange perspectives, address common challenges, and strengthen collective advocacy for the global palm oil industry.

During the discussion, CPOPC highlighted its function as a strategic platform for producing nations to align their views, respond to global challenges, and reinforce the position of the palm oil sector in international markets.
CPOPC also introduced the Global Framework Principles for Sustainable Palm Oil (GFP-SPO), a key initiative designed to support sustainability governance among producing countries. The framework is considered particularly relevant for Papua New Guinea, which currently does not yet have a national palm oil certification system.
Beyond sustainability issues, both parties exchanged views on the development of Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in Papua New Guinea. CPOPC expressed readiness to explore technical and collaborative support aimed at accelerating the development of these economic zones, which are expected to strengthen the country’s palm oil industry growth.

The introduction of the GFP-SPO initiative and discussions on potential support for SEZ development reflected concrete steps toward building a more sustainable and competitive palm oil sector in Papua New Guinea.
The cooperation is viewed as strategically important given Papua New Guinea’s significant potential for palm oil industry expansion in the Pacific region and its role as one of CPOPC’s member countries.
By strengthening synergy among producing nations, CPOPC hopes to reinforce the collective voice of the global palm oil industry, particularly in addressing trade barriers, negative campaigns, and increasingly stringent sustainability standards.
