The flight test took off from Soekarno-Hatta (Soeta) Airport in Tangerang, headed to Adi Soemarmo Airport in Surakarta, and then returned to Jakarta. The results of the test demonstrated that SAF J2.4, a blend of 2.5% bio-avtur and conventional avtur, exhibited equivalent quality to the traditional aviation fuel. This breakthrough represents a positive step toward more sustainable and eco-friendly aviation practices in Indonesia.

“We really appreciate every stakeholder that contribute in SAF product test series for all these years,” Director of Logistic and Infrastructure PT Pertamina, Alfian Nasution said, as Palmoilmagazine.com quoted from the official page of PT Pertamina, Monday 930/2023).

It is said that Pertamina SAF would be sold and distributed by its subholding – PT Pertamina Patra Niaga.

Meanwhile Director of PT Garuda Indonesia, Irfan Setiaputra mentioned that the flight test commercially using biofuel is the seriousness of the company. “And we hope that Garuda Indonesia would get the perception as the company that prioritizes sustainability for the future of our grandchildren,” he said.

One passenger of the commercial flight, Nugie hoped that SAF use would make every flight more efficient and deliver additional values from the previous fuel use. By developing SAF, PT Pertamina would also contribute to energy transition and realize net zero emission in 2060. The fuel is mixed by palm oil in bio-avtur formula to reduce exhaust gas from the plane and encourage economic and industrial development in this country.

By having the test, the two companies modified not only aviation industries in Indonesia but also delivered inspiration to the world that sustainability is not a dream but reality that can be realized with collaboration, innovation, and strong determination. The blue skies in Indonesia were not be the witnesses only but also as the participants in the big change heading to more sustainable and green future. (T2)
