IPB University’s Centras Explores and Enhances the SISKA Program at PT Simbiosis Karya Agroindustri

PALMOILMAGAZINE, JAKARTA – The university plays a pivotal role in promoting sustainable development and innovation, exemplified by the palm oil-cow integrated program known as Sistem Integrasi Sapi Sawit (SISKA). The Center for Tropical Animal Studies (Centras) at Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB) University actively demonstrated their commitment through an informative visit to PT Simbiosis Karya Agroindustri (SISKA Ranch) in the District of Tanah Bumbu, South Kalimantan Province.

Recognizing PT Simbiosis Karya Agroindustri as an ideal location for implementing the SISKA program, the visit aimed to refine the innovation development goals of SISKA to ensure precision and strengthen the main-plasma partnership model in SISKA with active support from relevant stakeholders.

Prof. Nahrowi, Head of Centras at IPB University, explained that through a series of visits, participants gained a deeper understanding of the animal feed process, regular cattle breeding, and the use of portable electric fences in the SISKA program. Additionally, they acquired insights into stockman management, learned about cattle colonies, the production of palm oil by-products transformed into SISKAFEED and PALMOFEED, and other noteworthy aspects of the SISKA initiative.

They also discussed about SISKA Collaborative Research and Dissemination (SCRD), that involved lecturers in faculty of livestock from many universities in Indonesia. Pusat Kajian Perkelapasawitan IPB University and Badan Amil Zakat Nasional (Baznas) attended the agenda.

Prof Nahrowi hoped series of agenda in the field visit would encourage the harmony for every party that involved to develop SISKA model. “And would lay hand in every innovation about SISKA to support sustainable palm oil plantations,” he said.

By involving universities actively, SISKA would have big chances to keep developing and positively contributing to realize sustainable palm oil plantations in the future. (T2)
