InfoSAWIT, KOTAWARINGIN BARAT – Following the successful planting of 33,000 mangrove trees during the first period in 2021-2022, the Indonesian Palm Oil Association (IPOA), the Coordinator Ministry in Maritime and Investment, and the Mangrove Group of Talok in the village of Sabuai have embarked on a second phase of mangrove planting.
It was attended by Regent in duty of Kotawaringin Barat, Budi Santosa on the seashore of Village of Sabuai, Sub district of Kumai, Kotawaringin Barat on Saturday (24/6/23). “What IPOA did was incredible. This could be sample for others,” he said, as in the official statement to Palmoilmagazine.com.
Meanwhile Chairman in Positive Campaign IPOA, Agam Fatchurrochman said the first period – successful planting reached 90%. The planting of 33.000 mangrove seeds laid on 10 hectares with its distance 1 meter, distance among the path 4 meters, and forest plan section 2.500 – 3.300 per hectare. Mangrove that would produces fruit reached 31.350 (95%) and the seedlings reached 1.650 (5%).
The second period – planting covered about 20 hectares in the same location but would be into two sessions. The schedule of the first session would be in July 2023, the nursery would be for three months, starting from July to November 2023.

26.400 mangrove seeds have been prepared for the first session second phase. They consist of api-api (Avicennia) about 2.640 stalks, mangrove (Rhizophora) about 21.120 stalks and perepat pedada (Sonneratia) about 2.640 stalks.
Besides, spot to nurse mangrove has been constructed in the program location to support the successful planting.
Coordinator of Control of Forest Conservation and Utilization Coordinator Ministry in Maritime and Investment, Fatma Puspitasari said the ministry appreciated the commitment of IPOA to rehabilitate mangrove. “Environmental Social Responsibility to rehabilitate mangrove is the contribution from the world business that we do appreciate,” Fatma said.
The program implementation would run well that is managed by Chairman of Kelompok Mangrove Village of Sabuai, M. Sasi Fikri who is also as the program manager. The administrator was Noviyanti, and the supervisor was the Head of Sabuai Village, Tohari and representative of IPOA, Masruni Abdullah.
Executive Director of IPOA, Mukti Sardjono in the event told that IPOA is committed to protect, conserve the environment, and deliver the positive for the people.
“We hope the program could be one real thing to maintain mangrove ecosystem sustainably and reinforce mitigation of climate change,” Mukti said. (T2)
