Palmoilmagazine.com, RIAU – On Wednesday (10/5/2023), Palmoilmagazine.com joined the Smallholder Inclusion for Better Livelihood and Empowerment (SMILE) program on their visit to Buatan Satu Mill of Asian Agri located in the Siak District of Riau Province.
The mill, which has been operating since 1991, has a capacity of processing 60 tons of fresh fruit bunch (FFB) per hour and is located on more than 10,000 hectares of palm oil plantations. Of these, around 7,000 hectares are plasma plantations while the remaining 3,000 hectares are main plantations.
During the visit, SMILE program representatives had the opportunity to observe the operations at Buatan Satu Mill and learn about Asian Agri’s sustainable practices in palm oil production. The program aims to promote collaboration between independent smallholders and plantation companies such as Asian Agri to achieve sustainable palm oil production. The visit to Buatan Satu Mill was an opportunity for SMILE program participants to gain insights and knowledge that they could apply in their own palm oil cultivation practices.
The group of SMILE Program did see how FFB was processed to be crude palm oil (CPO) in Buatan Satu Mill.

The mill also processes liquid waste process in the mill to be powerplant through biogas powerplant.
