PALMOILMAGAZINE, JAKARTA – Chairman of the Ketapang Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), Achmad Sholeh, conducted a working visit to Indonesia’s Ministry of Agriculture on Thursday. The visit aimed to discuss the protection of the plantation sector, particularly the challenges facing partnership plantations, which heavily rely on bridging funds.

During the meeting, Sholeh highlighted critical issues affecting the sustainability of the plantation sector in Ketapang Regency. He explained that partnership plantations managed by farmers often struggle financially, necessitating a more stable funding mechanism.

Sholeh presented several proposals to the Ministry, including strengthening sustainable funding mechanisms and providing intensive guidance for farmers. These measures aim to enhance farmers’ capacity to manage their plantations efficiently and reduce dependency on bridging funds.

“We hope the Ministry of Agriculture will take concrete steps to ensure our farmers are not perpetually caught in a cycle of dependence,” he added.

Sholeh emphasized the importance of protecting the plantation sector to support farmers’ welfare. He also called for a review of national policies to ensure their benefits are felt directly by local communities.

Representatives from the Ministry welcomed the DPRD Ketapang’s input during the meeting and committed to conducting evaluations and developing strategic actions to address the partnership plantation challenges.

“The Ministry will also coordinate with local governments to find long-term solutions that strengthen the plantation sector and create positive impacts for farmers,” Sholeh stated.

Through this collaboration, Sholeh hopes to foster sustainability in the plantation sector, improve farmers’ livelihoods, and reduce reliance on bridging funds. He affirmed the DPRD Ketapang’s commitment to advocating for farmers’ aspirations to ensure government policies directly benefit local communities.

“With synergy between the DPRD, central, and local governments, we are optimistic that Ketapang’s plantation sector will advance further in the future,” he concluded. (P2)
