PALMOILMAGAZINE, JAKARTA – The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Arifin Tasrif, announced that the implementation of biodiesel 40 percent (B40) is set for 2025. The government is currently conducting tests to ensure the program’s readiness. B40 consists of 40% fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) derived from palm oil mixed with diesel fuel.
“Yes, B40 will be implemented in 2025. Just wait for it,” he stated at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources office on Friday, July 12. He added that the implementation of B40 is timely, as significant steps have been taken to ensure the readiness of supporting materials, funding, and product testing.
B40 implementation would be about not only to support energy security but also minimize (gas) emission 40%. Besides, the ministry would try to minimize emission from the vehicles using fuel within high sulfur. “We are still searching for the mixture to minimize the sulfur (content). Now the sulfur reaches about 500 beats per minute (BPM) while EURO 5 standard should be less than 50 BPM,” Arifin said, as Palmoilmagazine.com quoted from Katadata.

Prior, Balai Besar Pengujian Minyak dan Gas Bumi (BBPMGB) Lemigas Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources conducted startability test for generator set of a hall and heavy tools for industry by applying B40.
“The government through BBPMGB LEMIGAS as the implementor would be testing B40 in generator set and other industrial vehicles,” Head of BBPMGB LEMIGAS, Mustafid Gunawan said in Jakarta, Tuesday (21/5/2024).
In 2022, the ministry did B40 tests to 12 four wheel – vehicles. Six of them were less than 3,5 tons. The tests targeted to ride for 560 kilometers per day within the target up to 50.000 kilometers. The startability test was inaugurated by Head of LEMIGAS that was represented by Coordinator of Product Application Test Team, Cahyo Widodo. It was also attended by the representatives of General Directorate of New Renewable Energy and Energy Conversion, APROBI, Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency, MIGAS, PT PLN, PT PLN PUSLITBANG, and Badan Riset dan Inovasi Nasional (BRIN).
