“This membership opens opportunities for deeper cooperation in sustainable practices and market resilience,” said Dida Gardera, Deputy Coordinator for Food and Agribusiness at Indonesia’s Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, in an official statement received by Palmoilmagazine.com on Thursday, January 2, 2025.

This regional solidarity is further bolstered by Malaysia, a founding member of CPOPC. Puan Nurul Marha Mohamed from Malaysia’s Ministry of Plantation and Commodities called PNG’s accession a testament to its dedication to sustainable palm oil management.

With 88.8% of global palm oil production now under CPOPC’s oversight, the organization is solidifying its position as a key force in shaping global industry policies. PNG’s membership enhances CPOPC’s ability to negotiate in international markets, particularly in addressing trade and regulatory challenges.

“Papua New Guinea’s inclusion enriches global dialogues and strategies for advancing this industry,” said Honduras Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Lid Roy Lazo Rodriguez.

For PNG, joining CPOPC creates opportunities to strengthen sustainability standards in its palm oil industry, a vital sector of the nation’s economy. “This milestone ensures sustainability while supporting the welfare of our smallholder farmers,” said Kepson Pupita, Secretary General of PNG’s Palm Oil Industry Corporation.

By welcoming Papua New Guinea, CPOPC not only expands its influence but also demonstrates that cross-border collaboration can provide solutions to global challenges in the palm oil sector. This milestone underscores the possibility of aligning sustainability and cooperation for the benefit of the environment, economy, and society. (P2)
