PALMOILMAGAZINE, JAKARTA – Musim Mas Group, one of the world’s largest integrated palm oil companies, showcased its innovation at the 3rd Indonesia Plantation Expo (BUNEX), organized by the Directorate General of Plantations, Ministry of Agriculture, at ICE BSD City, Tangerang, from September 12–14, 2024.

Under the theme “Sustainable Plantation Development for Food and Energy Security Towards Golden Indonesia 2045”, Musim Mas unveiled four new GS Series palm oil seed varieties designed to enhance Fresh Fruit Bunch (FFB) productivity with an oil extraction rate (OER) of up to 30%.

The company’s Accelerated Breeding Program, conducted at a plantation in Riau, produced four superior seed varieties in just 12 years—four years faster than conventional breeding procedures—without compromising rigorous standards. The four GS Series varieties include:

– DxP Musim Mas GS1 (crossbreed of Dura Deli and Pisifera Ekona)

– DxP Musim Mas GS2 (crossbreed of Dura Deli and Pisifera Dami Composite)

– DxP Musim Mas GS3 (crossbreed of Dura Angola and Pisifera Dami Composite)

– DxP Musim Mas GS4 (crossbreed of Dura Angola and Pisifera Ekona)

Proven Performance

These varieties were tested in multiple locations across Indonesia with varying soil and rainfall conditions. The results demonstrated improved FFB productivity and a shorter maturity period, with the first harvest achievable at 25 months, compared to the usual 30 months. By the fifth year of cultivation, the varieties have the potential to yield 32–34 tons of FFB per hectare annually and produce 9–10 tons of crude palm oil (CPO) per hectare per year.

Sustainability and Industry Leadership

The development of these new varieties aligns with Musim Mas’ Sustainability Policy Pillars and its goal of leading innovation in sustainable practices. Notably, the productivity of Musim Mas plantations surpasses the Indonesian palm oil industry average by 40%.

“This research not only reflects our commitment to sustainability but also supports the government’s vision for Sustainable Plantation Development for Food and Energy Security Towards Golden Indonesia 2045,” TK Lim concluded. (P3)
