PALMOILMAGAZINE, PEKANBARU – Rahman Hadi, Governor in Duty of Riau welcomed Prima Ghandi, a doctoral student from Tokyo University of Agriculture, at the Riau Governor’s office on Jalan Diponegoro, Pekanbaru, on Saturday (September 21, 2024). The visit focused on Ghandi’s plan to conduct research on the palm oil downstream industry in the province and explore potential Japanese investment in the sector.
During the meeting, Prima Ghandi shared that his research would concentrate on the palm oil downstream industry, particularly in obtaining Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) certification for fresh fruit bunches (FFB). He highlighted that there could be collaboration with Japan if certified materials were available in Riau Province.
“We informed the governor about the research plans. Support is crucial, especially regarding the investment potential in the palm oil downstream sector in Riau, provided that materials like FFB are certified by RSPO,” Ghandi said, as quoted by Palmoilmagazine.com from the official Riau Province website, Monday (September 23, 2024).

In addition to discussing these topics, Ghandi emphasized the importance of scholarships for Riau students to pursue education in Japan.
“The follow up of the meeting would be reporting the research results to the investors in Riau and the governor. We do hope there would be memorandum of understanding with the students of Indonesia in Japan, namely in taking advantages on scholarship for the students in Riau,” he said.
Governor in duty of Riau, Rahman Hadi would support the research and appreciated the research initiative by Prima and Tokyo University of Agriculture. He also emphasized it would be significant to get research as the base to get investment from Japan in palm oil downstream sectors in the province.
“We do appreciate the research to get the significant data that could be the basic for Japan to invest in Riau. Riau Province would fully support what would it take,” Rahman Hadi said. (P2)
