PALMOILMAGAZINE, ACEH SINGKIL – The Indonesian Association of Muslim Intellectuals or Ikatan Cendekiawan Muslim Indonesia (ICMI) Aceh Singkil Chapter, together with PT. Nafasindo and PT. Caltiva, strengthened the capacity of smallholders in Aceh Singkil Regency to pursue Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) certification.
This initiative, held on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, aimed to provide smallholders with a deeper understanding of sustainable palm oil cultivation and international standards.
ICMI Aceh Singkil Chairman, Aslym Combih, emphasized that the meeting would help smallholders appreciate the importance of regulations, obtain cultivation documents, and work toward the Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) certification.
“We hope that smallholders see the value in forming partnerships to optimize their plantation productivity, increase production, and improve the quality of fresh fruit bunches, which will ultimately boost their selling price,” Aslym stated, as reported by Palmoilmagazine.com from KBRN RRI on Saturday, October 26, 2024.
Aslym also highlighted that sharing information on global standards and sustainable cultivation practices is essential to protect the environment, prevent deforestation, and guide smallholders toward RSPO certification. “By adhering to these standards, smallholders can enhance their livelihoods while improving the quality and sustainability of their plantations,” he added.
It also involved three groups and agricultural tools providers, PT. Caltiva as the consultant of RSPO. Aslym said that the meeting was realized by having the intensive communication between ICMI Orda Aceh Singkil and PT. Caltiva that would deliver education for the smallholders in the regency.
The capacity reinforcement program should be the significant start to introduce environmental and sustainable palm oil practices and would escalate the smallholders’ welfare in the Regency of Aceh Singkil. (P2)
