PALMOILMAGAZINE, JAKARTA – Once again, independent smallholders have demonstrated their ability to adopt sustainable practices. Five unions in Muara Wahau, Kutai Timur District, have obtained both Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) and Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) certificates.
This achievement is a result of effective collaboration between the East Kalimantan Province, Kutai Timur District, and their development partner, GIZ. Such partnerships pave the way for sustainable development, particularly benefiting independent smallholders in the region.
Particularly in District of Kutai Timur, there are smallholders that got two sustainable certificate schemes, such as, Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) and Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO).
The smallholders in five unions in Sub district of Muara Wahau, are, Koperasi Pertanian Source Rejeki, Koperasi Sawit Usaha Tani Sejahtera, Koperasi Serba Usaha Kel’ean Blom Kejah, Koperasi Serba Usaha Karya Indah, and Koperasi Jasa Usaha Tani Sejahtera.

Technical Advisor GIZ – Sulam, Asrijon Tanjung said, it is the successful collaboration among many parties to realize sustainable development. It would not stop there because village spatial program exists to manage spatial allotment according to its potential and decide local protection areas, such as, cultural heritage and conservation.
He also said, for special, Village Nehas Liah Bing which it is cultural and indigenous village, through Koperasi Kel’ean Blom Kejah, is the proof that the indigenous villagers could follow their brothers in transmigration program. Prior in Subdistrict of Kombeng, in the midst of 2022, there were four unions getting ISPO and RSPO certificates, they were, Koperasi Jasa Mutiara Kombeng, Koperasi Perkebunan Sawit Marga Indah, Koperasi Serba Usaha Pantun Sejahtera, and Koperasi Serba Usaha Makarti. (T2)
